August 24th and 25th, Mateo participated in the Advanced course of the Lucas Oil Racing School, the official racing school of the Road to Indy program at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois. This follows the Basic school he completed in January in Homestead. The primary focus of the advanced course is lapping so it consists of 6 30 minute track sessions, coaching and data review.
It was a fun but hot, couple of days. Having a couple of fellow junior karters in his class made it a lot of fun too. Several of the instructors from Homestead were back for this session as well. With only a couple of cars set up for smaller drivers, Mateo didn’t have to share a car with the Basic class participants which meant his car was always ready to go.
Mateo will be back with Lucas Oil Racing in December as he has been selected to participate in the Lucas Oil Racing Scholarship Shootout at Sebring. Its a great program of on and off track instruction.
