Its been a busy couple of weekends for MNR with lots of local racing. Last weekend Mid-State Kart Club hosted a double header over two days. They threw everything in…Saturday was counterclockwise, pill draw w/ 2 heats while Sunday was reverse direction, qualifier. On Saturday, Mateo split the heats finishing second in the first heat and first in the second heat to start on pole for the final. In the final, he held off the field and even had his fastest lap at Mid-State with a 30.471. He led every lap and finished 0.306 in front of his closest competitor.
Sunday was a different story as Mateo was the sole competitor in the TAG field. It worked out though as mechanical issues in the final meant that he was only able to complete one lap. With no others in the field, that single lap registers the win.
A little work on Saturday meant the kart was ready for Sunday’s round #11 race. Back to counterclockwise and another pill draw. While both heats were tight early, Mateo finished 2nd in both putting him on the outside for the final. It was an exciting race as the top 2 are highly competitive having battled it out all season for the top spot. They were nose to tail virtually the entire race with several pass attempts. Mateo managed to hold off most of them, but was passed coming around the final turn with a few laps to go. After passing the start/finish line, Mateo made a bold move to take the position back. The race ended with a bit of controversy as the flagger mistakenly threw the checkered flag instead of the white, effectively ending the race a lap early with Mateo in the lead.
3 races in 8 days with 3 wins…not a bad stretch!
