Finally, time to kick off our home club racing season at Mid-State Kart Club in Springfield, IL. After a previous rainout for race one, this race day became a double header. While last year we raced KA100 at Mid-State, this year we are moving up to the TaG class (X30). Unfortunately, due to weather we had not been able to get much practice time in, so we were unsure as to what the right heading or tire pressures should be. We went into the race day with the goal of treating the day as one giant practice, without any expectations of placing anywhere. Despite our lack of data, Mateo still managed to put the TonyKart chassis in P2 in qualifying, only about 1.5 tenths of a second off pole. The pre-final saw further improvement over 8 laps, with another P2 finish. The final of race #1 was an exciting affair, with Mateo again coming in second, but with a fast lap only 9 hundredths of a second off the race winner.
Race #2 started based on fast-lap times off of race #1, so Mateo started P2, and held on to P2 all day, but managed to take fast lap for the race with a time of 30.296 seconds. Not bad at all for never having run this platform at this track under these conditions, and coming into the day with no data. A great start to the season, and we look forward to seeing what Mateo can accomplish in the TaG class this year.
