It was great to get back on the track at Motorsports Country Club of Cincinnati this weekend. Mateo started off the day with practice and qualifying. Qualifying was a bit off Mateo’s usual times but he still managed to turn in a 48.17 which was good enough for P2.
During the prefinal, Mateo was quick putting down a fast lap of 46.996 on lap 8 which put him in to position to pass for the lead on lap 9. Mateo held on to the lead for the rest of the prefinal, finishing nearly 5 seconds ahead of 2nd place.
Starting the final in P1, Mateo held on to that position until lap 7 when he was passed for the position. While he never threatened for the lead again, his lap times were very consistent. The second half of the race all of his laps were within 0.15 seconds of each other. Consistency is something Mateo has been working to improve and this was a clinic in consistent lap times.
