For a race that earlier in the week wasn’t likely to happen due to rain, it turned out to be a fantastic day for racing! Running in reverse direction for the first time in the X30, MNR got an assist from a competitor who wasn’t racing that day on gearing since we’ve not had any practice time in either direction.
Race #3 was a reverse qualifying race. After 2 practice sessions, Mateo qualified 2nd in a 3-lap qualifier. He finished 0.37 behind the pole sitter. In the pre-final, Mateo got a great jump on the start and took the lead in the first turn. He held the lead briefly until lap 2 when he was passed. Mateo held on to second place and turned his fastest lap of the day on lap 7 of the 8 lap prefinal with 30.422.
In the final, Mateo started P2 but made another great move in turn 1 to take the lead. This time he held on to the lead for the rest of the race. The top 3 competitors were all very close in lap times all day, but the final ended with a 4.85 sec gap to 2nd and 3rd, who finished 0.85 seconds apart.
