Saturday was Round 2 of the MCCProAmKarting at the Motorsports Country Club of Cincinnati. It was cold and overcast all day, at least the rain held off for dry racing conditions. Mateo skipped practice to let the track dry from the overnight rain and went out for the first time during qualifying. The kart was quick and he qualified 2nd with a fast lap of 47.35 (gap 0.218).
In the 12 lap prefinal, Mateo was solidly in 2nd throughout the 12 lap heat. He finished 0.281 off the lead and had the fastest lap of the prefinal, turning a 46.40 on the final lap.
The final might have been the most exciting of the day…as Evagoras Pappasavvas and Mateo Naranjo battled it out for the lead. Evagoras started on pole with Mateo on the outside. After the first couple of laps, Mateo stayed close on Evagoras’ bumper and managed a great pass in Turn 1 on lap 10. The two continued to battle the rest of the race and Evagoras passed Mateo on lap 19 and held on for the win. Fantastic race from both of them.
