It’s been just over a month since the end of the FRP season and my first full season driving cars. In addition to the full season of FRP, I ran 3 Hoosier Super Tour events at Sebring, Road Atlanta and Road America for June Sprints. My primary goals for the season were to 1) run with the lead pack and 2) finish every lap of every race.
A pair of second places at Sebring started off the season on a positive note. A second place in FRP race 1 was a great start to the FRP season, but it took a few more race weekends to find my lane. In the final race of the weekend at Lime Rock Park on Memorial Day weekend, I nosed out another driver for 5th place. After that, I finished every race in 5th place or higher, except for 1 for the remainder of the season achieving the first of my two season goals. With this style of racing, the draft is a huge advantage so staying close puts you in position even when you aren’t leading. If you lose the draft, it is very hard to recover.
The biggest highlights of the season were winning the SCC June Sprints and my first FRP race at Pitt Raceway. While the runoffs remain, I am currently leading the points for the Hoosier Super Tour in the FF class. I also finished 4th in the Formula Race Promotions F1600 championship, only 11 points behind 3rd in my rookie season.
I have one more race scheduled for 2023 in Atlanta in Nov. Schedules should be coming out soon for 2024, so keep an eye out! And I’m happy to report that I finished every lap of every race of the FRP and Hoosier Super Tour seasons…including one race that I ended with a flat tire!
